Mandrel Production

We produce water-soluble mandrels for hollow composite parts. This mainly for structural parts or Air- and Cableducts for the Aerospace, Automotive and Racing industry. Our material is listed on the Boeing Material Specification BMS14-13.

 

To offer you the Aqua mandrels we need the following:

  • CAD file of the mandrel in STEP or IGES format
  • Information about your application (Prepreg, RTM, temperature, pressure, etc.)
  • Quantity of mandrels / period
  • Requested delivery date

 

The necessary tools will be produced in our own tooling department. According the designated use we will choose the appropriate manufacturing process. Therefore we always can offer the suitable solution and this at very attractive costs.

Unlike conventional mandrel materials, which must be tediously removed from composite lay-ups, our mandrels are readily soluble in tap water and easily washed away from the finish part without damaging the finish composite structure. Our Aqua mandrels are absolutely environmentally friendly and odourless. The Aqua mandrels can be used for common Autoclave or RTM processes up to 180°C without any problems.

 

We have used our standard material also already at 235°C during 3h. Therefore applications with BMI Prepreg are possible too. Washout video is available below.

 

CavusCore Mandrels for special applications with higher temperature and/or higher pressure (High Pressure RTM, Thermoplastics or high performance polymers) are available in different versions. The material still offers very fast water solubility (Non-Infiltrated) even with applications at 400°C. Washout movies for download are available below. The CavusCore mandrel material was especially developed for HP-RTM mass production in high volumes. 

For prototype applications we also can deliver CavusCore blocks.
